TRI-FACTOR SERIES 2009 AMBASSADOR
Juggling studies and sports is no easy task, but for SEA games gold medalist Mok Ying Ren believes that proper time management is the key to everything. Mok was a swimmer since his primary school days, but got bored of seeing the black line at the bottom of the pool during training and started picking up running as a sport. Knowing that being an emerging runner with a swimming background, Mok picked up triathlon as a sport in 2004 and to date, Mok has completed at least 15 Olympic Distance Triathlons with the greatest achievement of clinching the gold medal at the 2007 SEA Games with a timing of 2hr 5min and also coming in 12th at the Asian Beach Games 2008 with a timing of 1hr 59min. Currently a Third Year medicine student at National University of Singapore, Mok continues training to improve his personal best. His philosophy: I train to race, I race to win.

What made you start triathlons?
I was a swimmer since primary 4, and I got bored with seeing the black
line at the bottom of the pool for every training.
I started triathlons in Secondary 4. My first race was the A-Famosa Triathlon, which was really tough and hilly!
Who is your favourite athlete?
Well, there are quite a few. Simon Whitfield from Canada is one (simonwhitfield.blogspot.com). Kirsten Sweetland from Canada too (kirstensweetland.blogspot.com).
How many Olympic distance triathlons have you done so far?
About 15! I have been to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, China and Malaysia for some races.
What do you think of TRI-FACTOR SERIES 2009?
I think this is a great event which allows people who are curious about what a triathlon is to participate in one by taking small steps towards the event.
The series starts off with an open water swim, followed by a cycling event and a running event, and finally ends off with a full triathlon!
It is a great way for children and adults to challenge their limits!
What is your advice to people who are new to triathlon?
I would suggest that you take it easy and see if triathlon is the sport
for you.Every sport has its own uniqueness and triathlon, being a multisport
event, is definitely one of the more challenging sports around. Start easy by taking part in biathlons, duathlons and finally challenging yourself to the full multisport event with all 3 sports.
